A hiker on the Pacific Crest Trail had to be rescued Monday by a CHP
helicopter crew when he ran out of water due to the drought and became
lost.

The California Highway Patrol officers who rescued him said Driscoll
told them that water sources on the trail he had planned to drink from
were dried up. He then became disoriented, unable to find his way.

The rescue began about 7:30 a.m. Monday when the Alpine County
Sheriff’s Department called Valley Division Air Operations for help in
finding someone who had activated a feature on a spot satellite
personal tracker.
