[pct-l] Headlamp

I've used the Petzl e+lite on all 3 trails and while I don't make a habit
of night hiking long distances, have used it a number of times in pitch
dark conditions on trail for an hour or two and it was fine. It's not
bright, but your eyes adjust to the dim light it provides and walking was
never a problem. But always carry a spare battery with you, maybe a couple
if you're planning on night hiking serious distance. If you run out in the
middle of a night hike, you're in trouble if you don't immediately have a
spare. Usually one battery lasts me most of a thru hike, i.e. several
months, but I only do an hour or 2 in the dark at a time, and as Roger has
noted, the batteries last a long time.
