Great question! You've mentioned some great things already. Here is some of
my *opinion*.

Be able to put your shelter together in total darkness with buckets full of
rain being dumped on you with numb fingers and starving to the point of
delirium.

Knowing where to stop for the night, not necessarily when.

Know the difference between having fun and hurting yourself, and maybe even
be able to figure out if what is gonna happen ahead of you a mile or few is
gonna be fun today or is gonna hurt you if you don't wait until tomorrow to
tackle it.

It's OK to know your own limits, and hike within them. Be aware of some of
your personal limits being expanded, and maybe others shrinking.

Never be so married to "hike your own hike" that you can't recognize good
advice when you need to hear it. Most of this is all in your head. Use it
right.

If you're not having fun, find out why, and try to fix it. You're supposed
to be having fun. Have fun.

Have fun!
