If one of the main purposes of the April kick-off was information gathering, pack shake downs, gear evaluation etc. why not use the Ruck format to accomplish that purpose?   That way people can acquire their gear ahead of time. The Rucks happen in the winter months and are spread out geographically enabling more people to attend. The “party” could be the ALDHA gathering in the fall.
