As a side note:  I met very few people at Kennedy Meadows last season picking up snow gear there that had a reasonable clue what they were getting into.  The most common response I received when asking if they knew how to use an ice axe etc was something like they'd figure it out.  I don't even remember seeing anyone with a leash or lanyard on their ice axe.  It seemed kinda pahtetic
