<P>Back when we lived down in Santa Clarita, the local fire department recused our missing iguana out of a Dutch Elm tree, also free of charge. They had a new "cherry-picker" type rig that they needed to train with, and the iguana rescue fit the bill. I'll never forget the face of the poor fireman who had the grab the iguana; it was apparent that he was terrified of the creature, but did his best all the same, bless him.</P>

They were asked about fees and were told there were none. They seemed really excited that the hikers and dog were in good shape and really needed no assistance. </DIV>

<DIV>Two years ago a thru-hiker was airlifted from the north side of Fuller Ridge after she found herself in a snake pit. She contacted 911 via her satellite phone and was rescued via Search and Rescue helicopter. I later asked her if she incurred any charges for the rescue and she indicated that she was not. In fact, she shared that the Search and Rescue team was more than happy to get out and identified this as a "training" mission. </DIV>
