Very cool. This is a great data source.

I just looked at your website and you mention that the temp readings
were taken from at device that was carried INSIDE your backpack? If
deep inside, then there would be a considerable delay in temperature
transfer from the air to the device due to the material inside the pack
acting as insulation. If near the surface of the pack, you might get
higher readings due to passive solar gain, especially if the pack was a
dark color. I noticed a couple of 140 degree readings which would
likely have been due to this effect.

Did you give any instructions to the hikers about where to place the
devices?
It's been a while since I've posted or even been subscribed to this
list, but I thought I would let everybody know that I have finally made
use of the 18,000 temperature data points that were gathered during the
'04 and '05 seasons.

For those that are unfamiliar with these, during '04 and '05,
thru-hikers carried iButton devices that recorded the temperature to an
accuracy of .1 degree F every hour on the hour. This made for an
ungodly quantity of data, and I have finally put two weeks of time
aside and made a tool to analyze it.
I'm elated with the results, but of course I'm open any feedback from
the field. Hope everybody finds it useful.
