The South Side route is not technical - no crevasses or anything, but you would still not want to do it without an ice axe or crampons depending on the snow conditions.<br>Just a word of caution about Thielsen - although most people consider it a non-technical scramble, most like having a fixed line at the top. peak-bagging material. People die every year climbing on these peaks. </div>

etc... are some of these close to the trail like Whitney? are they generally
hike-able, i.e. walk-ups? i think it would be a shame to miss out on some
famous peaks if one is already in the area after having strolled up the
western flank of the country... and several of those seem to "stand alone" or
are at least massive compared to the surrounding landscape.... </div>
