not being able to get out there like he used to, Ben Schifrin is now *<b>single-handedly</b>*
doing the leg-work and the revising for the entire trail, end to end. For
an ER Doc, somehow he finds the time to slip away many times each season and check
this section or that. He hiked the trail way back in 1973 and this
is an act of love on his part. For those who have their occasional
grumbles about the guidebooks, realize that there are multiple authors cited on
the various editions, but only Ben has doing the job in recent years, trying to
get things up to date for all 3 books. He’s an incredible
individual. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

fortunate that Schaffer, et al worked so diligently to put together the
descriptions and data in the three volumes. The trail changes daily, and the
books can be updated only every so many years, so, with human fallability and
the immensity of data involved and changes over time, there will be some
mistakes. But the books are of inestimable value. And written so well that they
are almost poetry. They are unique treasures for our community. <o:p></o:p></p>

al, should be read. Buy at least one (there are 3 to cover the whole trail) and
see all that it offers. The guide books address history, geology, side routes
to civilization, camp sites and water; location and hrs.post offices, maps,

about the trail, it's history, and it's people. A must read if you care to know
