Ultraviolet light (more prevalent at higher elevations) causes nylon to
break down. I have often wondered why pack manufacturers (and tent
manufacturers as well) do not use polyester instead of nylon. I
believe polyester does undergo some degradation under UV (probably
everything does!), but I believe it's at a much slower rate than nylon.<br>

I seem to remember that Stephenson used to make some of his tents out
of polyester.<br>
