<DIV><FONT size=2>The FS shuttle understands the thru-hikers and are quite
helpful. The norm is to buy your daily pass at the ski resort. You show the pass
to get on the bus and the bus driver asks that you turn it in at days
end.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>We got on at Reds Meadow with no ticket. We asked about
payment and the driver said to talk to the people at the resort ticket office.
The ticket people understood what was happening and said to just buy our tickets
when we returned. We got a free ride to town. The next day we bought our
ticket and turned them in to the bus driver when we disembarked at Reds Meadow.

Mammoth Lakes, We just walked over to the road near the huge parking lot and got

catch: Muir Trail Ranch charges a whopping $50 to pick up a package from the
post office and hold it for you, per <A

<P class=MsoNormal><FONT face=Arial color=navy size=2><SPAN
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: navy; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">VVR charges $15 per
box. OTOH, VVR’s ferry shuttle is $9 each way (<A
href="http://www.edisonlake.com/shuttle.htm">http://www.edisonlake.com/shuttle.htm</A>),
so to pick up a box at VVR you’re likely already out $15 + $18 = $33 before
you spend a dime on anything else at what’s reported to be one of the most
expensive places on the PCT. And there are only two ferry
departure times per day (or walk another 4.5 miles each way).
Muir Trail Ranch is just 1.5 miles off the PCT, so their $50
charge isn’t looking quite so bad after all … !!<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P>
