All or none of the above?  I mean, I use the
words interchangeably to some degree.

If I've got a heavy pack on and schlepping
up or down (say) Kinsman or Bly Gap, that's
hiking for sure.  The half-hour loop around
the neighborhood (that we do most nights)
is walkin'.

OTOH...

If I'm cruising a flat ridge with a bouncy step
and a light pack, that could pass as walking.

If we take a detour on our neighborhood walk
and come back tired, wet or muddy, I might
say, "that was a hike!"
