Your photos prove that your camera must accompany you. I agree with your "not negotiable" stance.
Check out Lynne Whelden's packs though.

How quick to set up? How dry? How bug-free? How much room?
I expect a 100% dry & bug-free night, under any conditions.
The pack need not be inside.
