I hate to be the bucket of cold water here, but don't you think that when
you sign on to be Governor of a state, you kinda sign on to being reachable
24/7 for the duration of your term? Or at the very least, designating
that the Lt. Gov. is in charge while you take a few days to hike? I can
understand that he didn't want to take his security posse or the reporters who
would have hounded him, but IMHO when you take the oath of office for a job
like that, you have to live up to it--and that means letting a few people
know where you are or at least who's in charge while you're gone.
Ditto. I only read Felix's capsule of the story (didn't click the link to
the full story) and it appeared to be a "lost weekend' situation. I can
condone such if you are a celebrity who has had such attention thrust on you
over mere entertainment but when you are "The Man", "Honcho" or "Alpha Dog"
and you campaigned to get the job, you owe it to your wife, the Lt. Gov.,
etc. to let them know that you are going to be unavailable but not to be
concerned. Sometimes the responsible thing to do is to be clear that for X
amount of time you aren't going to be the one who is responsible.
And I'm REALLY glad that I don't have that kind of job.
Ditto that too.
