What to do until it warms up a bit on the AT?  Well, you can hike a little north of Key West on the Florida Trail.  No mountains, but you'd sure get into basic hiking condition....

Thanks for all the responses about "school" I have replaced it on my to-do list with a ruck.
 
I will look into a tent, a very lite one.  I have read many a trail log that is nagative about shelter sleeping and had planned to avoid it as much as possible.  
 
Several of you have questioned my Feb / March depature plans.  I'm retiring in Oct 2010, if I could leave Nov 1 without freezing I would.  Or if they could lenghten the trail to say Key West......  As it is I don't know what I'll do with myself for 3 months.
 
About water, any opinions regarding bottles vs bladder?
