The "first," time I hiked on the AT was with Ken Bennett and Trooper and Lee I Joe.  What ever happened to Lee I Joe?

Your list of "firsts" seems odorous. So I will go the other way and say. "The first time I wore wool underwear and a wool t-shirt on a hike, and I didn't stink to high Heaven at the end of the first hour." Seriously, it was a revelation. That wool t-shirt lasted an 8-day hike and still didn't stink at the end. In the rain I might have gotten the occasional whiff of "damp sheep" smell, but that went away as soon as it dried.
