Not sure what you think you're missing Leslie.  The AT used to start on top of Mt. Oglethorpe.  It was moved north east to Springer at some point; I'm sure someone on the list knows the date.  I'd like to see it go back to Oglethorpe but that would be quite a project.

  In Wikipedia, Mildred Norman and Grandma Gatewood are both cited as being the first woman to hike "the entire length of the Appalachian Trail in one season", Peace Pilgrim in 1952 and Grandma Gatewood in 1955.  Actually, for Grandma, they specify "from Mt. Oglethorpe, GA, to Mt. Kathadin in Maine" and say the mileage.  What am I missing here?  a'bear
