My best buddy Ace <
http://jims-ramblings.blogspot.com/2007/06/memorial-to-ace.html> was a holy
terror for the first year. He destroyed upholstered furniture, chewed on my
CAT5 cables and electric cords and generally had periods when he was almost
impossible to control. At two it was like someone threw a switch and he
calmed down substantially. Again at 3 he had to have surgery for a knee
problem (over enthusiastic Frisbee chasing) and I was his 'nurse' during the
healing process. That bonded him to me and after that he was a joy and a
finer companion could not have been wished for.

Getting a dog is always an adjustment, you to them and them to you.
