The Rat Creek Fire located roughly 3 miles east of Gibbons Pass and
25 miles west of Wisdom is probably the first fire northbound hikers
will encounter. There are so many fires in Montana it is hard to be
sure about that. The fire started August 9th and is now 1500 acres.

The closure for the Rat Creek fire is described as east of the
Continental Divide including Schultz Saddle Road. See
http://www.fs.fed.us/r1/b-d/news/2007-0811rat-cr.pdf for closures
before the fire increased from 120 acres to 1500.

Not sure if the CDT is closed as it is on the Divide, but if it is
closed, there are enough trails and roads west of the Divide to leave
the CDT 4 miles northeast of Gibbons Pass and continue in a general
north and northeast direction to the AP Wilderness (and then
southeast to the CDT).
