Richard Mallery and others--
It is my understanding that the Nature Conservancy now holds land
approximately equal in area to the state of Rhode Island.   I have had  the
opportunity to visit some of their holdings in a structured and invited way,
e.g. a former ranch property in the San Francisco peaks has guided tours led
by trained volunteers for any one who shows up at an appointed time.  The
Animas Range does present special problems in view of the present turmoil
surrounding the border.  It  sounds like contacts within the Conservancy
would be required if there is to be any hope of a policy which would allow
structured access for hikers.  From my perusal of Google Earth, the range
seems to consist of highly dissected spires and canyons.  Do you think there
is any realistic ridgeline route, or is it basically a bajada hike?
