I am very sorry to hear about the Goat Man's pain.
It is one thing to quit, like I did the PCT in 1991, and quite another to be "taken off" the trail by injury.
The emotional scars I suffered lasted 18 years until I came back last year and completed the PCT.
I hope the Goat Man recovers quickly and comes back to seek his dream again.
