Hello Jim,

The most recent hiker said he was probably the last one coming through at this time of year. We have enjoyed the hikers we've hosted.

We are 2 miles north of the ranger station on Hwy 35. Our physical address is 3918 Hwy 35 N, one mile from the McKnight Canyon trail exit. We are able to hold packages/supplies sent to HC 68 Box 64C, Mimbres, NM 88049. If they know in advance about when they will be in the area notice would be nice, but not absolutely necessary. Our phone is 575-536-9845 and my email is Lmcconaha at aol.com. Silver City has markets and a nice Natural foods Co-op store to resupply and we are able to drive them to town for this. The one of the main trails resumes around the Gila Cliff Dwellings information station and we drove our last camper there. Doc Campbells has supplies at a higher price, but they do have food supplies for campers. I believe he also holds packages for hikers, so we could drive them there for what is needed also. We can offer our home or yard to camp in, showers, washing of clothes, phone and internet.

I'm assuming this isn't going to be a full time job! I will be putting a sign up for my weaving studio and I would like to know if there is a "trail Angel" sign I could include on the sign. My husband is a bit hesitant, but has thoroughly enjoyed the hikers. I think he's worried about having too many at one time. I don't really think this will be an issue, so any encouragement in this area is appreciated.

Please feel free to rephrase what I wrote and let me know if I missed anything.

Warmly,

Lynnae --

Thank you so much for offering to help out hikers on the CDT.

I would be happy to pass on the word to other Trail users, although you are unlikely to have any passing through until October.

If you provide some additional details, I will be glad to put a note on our website as well as posting it on the CDT-L mail list that is consulted regularly by hikers. I would also plan to include a brief mention, including your contact information, in our semiannual newsletter.

Can you locate your address and provide directions [from Mimbres Ranger Station] so that people would know how to get to your home? How and when would you like to have them contact you? Might you be able to pick them up and drive them back to the Trail? Would you hold packages that they might send ahead with supplies? Are convenience foods available for purchase in the community?

If you will draft a notice to welcome hikers and offer assistance, I'll go over it and give you any suggestions I may have. We'll go from there.

It is customary to provide a receptacle where your visitors can leave something in appreciation of your hospitality and to help to compensate for your expenses. It's also nice to have a hikers' box that can be used to drop off any excess items (or pick up anything useful that may have been left previously).

Hiking in New Mexico is quite challenging, so the assistance of angels such as yourselves makes a big difference!

Happy trails!

My husband Will and I live in Mimbres Valley, NM. I've received 2 sets of hikers, given a place to sleep, shower, phone, use the internet and helped them resupply. There doesn't seem to be too much here. We would like to be put on a registry so other hikers of the cdt know we are here. How do we go about this? Is there a trail angle sign that can be put out? We live fairly remotely. You can contact us either through this email or phone: 575-536-9845
