The Silver Fire, in southern New Mexico, started by lightning on June 7,
now has a perimeter of over 20,000 acres.

The Inciweb site shows the fire area as including nearly all of the CDTS
route between Emory Pass (or even up to Hillsboro Peak) southward to the
headwaters of Berrenda Creek.

There is a closure order in effect in the Aldo Leopold Wilderness that
would prohibit public use along the Divide north of Hillsboro Peak.

CDT hiker use of the affected areas is minimal in this season, but
southbounders will no doubt note the effects (presumably including
deadfall) when they pass through in the fall.
