That is correct, however, I don't think that is the case here.  He was
attempting to mark his path with excess clothes and according to
searchers was fully clothed when found.  They found his body floating
face up in 3' of water.  www.oregonlive.com has a pretty thorough
account and timeline of this tragedy.
