[pct-l] America the Beautiful - for a fee

Here is what I was told by Cleveland Forest Service.

Adventure Pass stays. $5 for day pass, $30 for annual pass.

Being replace are the Golden Eagle passes & National Parks passes.

Note that as I have been told by the above - not all areas of the Forest
Service require the Adventure Pass any more! This is welcome news. Only 20%
of their Domain requires the Adventure pass or Greater Passes (America the
Beautiful or existing Golden Eagle or National Parks Passes). Only the
costly improvements - toilets, buildings, extensive trailheads - you can
call the forest service as I have several times to find the areas that
require the Adventure Pass or greater passes. The 'Greater' passes can
include the Adventure pass 'feature' at addional cost. The National Parks
Pass ($50) can add the eagle hologram ($15) that ups it to include Adventure
pass access (leave the card in windshield - hologram showing) OR the Golden
Eagle Pass ($65) has it all - but both will be replaced by the America the
Beautiful Pass ($80). Don't know what you get for the extra money. I have
asked the forest service to explain it to me in a couple of days. I wanted
to know which Pass is the better value - Golden Eagle Pass (buy before end
of Dec 06) or America the Beautiful Pass (starts Jan 07 and kills off the
Golden Eagle Pass). The Golden Eagle Pass will be valid until it expires
(based on when you purchase it).

hope the above helps a bit.
