"Last Child in the Woods" by Richard Louv is a great read for prospective parents and grandparents. The subtitle, Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder, suggests physical, emotional and psychological benefits of exposure to nature. This may be preaching to the choir to the hiking community, but the research and conclusions argue for preservation of our wilderness, as well as promoting wilderness experiences in the next generation.
