In my opinion Funnybone!'s journal is one of the most entertaining journals we have seen in quite some time. Having maintained a daily journal throughout my hike this summer, I can safely say that it is an amazing amount of work. For those of you that have provided a grammar critique, put your exclamation point where the sun doesn't shine!

I believe that Chuck will be the first to admit this if he were reading the list but I will share this in his absence. He is an amazing story-teller and has a genuine ability to keep his readers entertained. I have no doubts that he will same day utilize these talents on a much larger scale. While his vocabularly is diverse, he had some assistence with some of those "big and difficult" words. You see, he decided early on to incorporate, in the proper context of his journal, a word-of-the-day. He would receive daily word-of-the-day emails and than work to incorprate a word and definition into his daily journal. It was his way of having fun.

We sat on the porch at KM this summer and laughed about this word-of-the-day challenge. I only wish that I had thought of this idea first! It is easy to sit back and be critical of others and I find that this list is full of arm-chair critics! I would enjoy seeing Mr. Grammar Coach hit the trail, hike 12-13 hours a day and than spend 1-2 hours writing a daily journal. Probably wouldn't happen right GC? My guess is you found issue with Funnybone!'s entry re: a certain guidebook and felt a need to find fault with him. From my perspective, your comments and response appeared rather childish.

I left this message in Funnybone!'s guest book:

"Pilgarlic"! How did you find that word on the trail?
Marvelous word. I had never read it before. Had to
search two dictionaries to find it. Splendid word.
Worthy of Patrick O'Brian. Thank you for the journal.

The man can write. And this thread has gone on far too
long. Please excuse my addtion of another response.
But I am trying to spread familiarity with the word. A
word that fine should be more widely used. At least
that's the excuse I am using.
