You have basically two ways.  One is to hitchike north which will be the quicker method.  The other method is to take the Crest and Yarts bus systems.  But due to their infrequent schedule, this will take you a full day with an overnight stay in Mammoth.

The Crest Bus (South Line) runs from Lone Pine to Mammoth every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  The bus leaves Lone Pine (at Statham Hall) at 2:50pm and arrives in Mammoth (at the McDonalds) at 4:50pm.  You'll then have to stay the night to wait for the Yarts bus in the morning.  The Yarts leaves from several stops in Mammoth daily (pick one near your hotel/campground) at 7-7:30am and arrives in Yosemite Vally (visitor center) at 10:55am.  Schedule may be changed for summer 07 so you should call them to confirm the schedule before you leave.
