A innovation that that ALDHA East recently started doing is distributing 
the quarterly newsletter via email.  It saves a ton of money.  The PCTA 
would save even more since there's is a color magazine and they probably 
have many more members.  It's on a voluntary basis but more and more 
prefer it.

That said, if you hike the trail, there's really no excuse not to join.  
Even in todays economy with the drop in the price of a gallon of gas, 
one or two full ups pay for a 1 year membership.
