This is probably old news by now but I got the below message this morning:

............................................................................
....................................

I wanted to touch base with you and let you know how the PCT Atlas is coming
along. I am very close to completing the first book and it should be
available for purchase in time for this year’s thru-hikers to leave Campo –
most likely around the 1st of April. The final book will weigh in at around
100 pages and will be a similar size and weight as the data-book. It will
cover the section of trail from the Mexico border to Tehachapi Pass. When
it’s finished I will update the online demo chapter so you can see some of
the new features. I’ve been working hard on implementing many of your
suggestions and I’m very happy with the direction it’s taking so far. I
really want this to be the ideal hiker’s handbook with tons of info in a
small, lightweight package and none of the annoyances of the other books
we’ve all come to know and hate.

So that’s the good news. The bad news, for those of you planning a thru-hike
this year, is that I will not be able to complete the entire set in time for
your hike. At the rate I’m going I expect to have a new book out every 3
months so the entire set will be available in time for the 2009 hiking
season. If you are a planning an ’08 thru-hike I wanted to give you advance
notice so you can buy whatever other navigation materials you’ll need to
complete the sections from Central California on.

Here is my current estimated timetable for publication:

Vol 1: So-Cal - Apr 01, 2008

Vol 2: Cen-Cal - Jul 01, 2008

Vol 3: Nor-Cal - Oct 01, 2008

Vol 4: Oregon - Jan 01, 2008

Vol 5: Washington - Apr 01, 2009
