How about "Bat out of Hell"!  Last year when I came through Sizzors it was
the warmest record on that date in history - 104 official, who knows in the
reflected heat off the sand.   Climbing out of Borrego was like climbing out
ot hell.

For those of us who have been wondering why Donna has not been on the list
lately:

Yesterday I met with a group of 10 hikers at Barrel Springs before first
light.  We were going to dayhike San Felipe Hills  (PCT mile 101-77).  
As we Approached the Spring at Barrel Springs we saw a low key headlamp.  I
hollered out, "Is that a PCT hiker?"
A voice came back, "Yes. Who are you?"
"Monty." I said.
"Warner Springs Monty?" she said as her headlamp emerged form a one man
tent.  "This is L-Rod."
She was just finishing a hike of Section A.  What a trip.

Perfect!  This was a Sierra Club hike that included a bit of PCT educational
content.  Here was the best known Trail Angel/Hiker Host in the history of
the PCT.  We had a very pleasant but brief introduction and interaction.
The group had a 24 mile dayike to do.

In our group was Len Glassner, PCT Class of 08.  He and Donna knew each
other from the PCT-L but had never seen each other face to face.  Maybe they
still haven't.  It was still dark.  They'll get the chance to do that again
at Hiker Heaven in two months.

Our own Capt. Bivy, who has known Donna for years, was also with us.

The rest of the group were "Death Marcher", hike til you drop, Sierra Club
very active outings staff, members, and friends.  They got a chance to meet
a famous PCT Trail Angel, who many had heard of, but we had to move on.  We
had 24 miles to go.

At 10:30, while we were taking a break at the 3rd Gate Cache (mile 91),
Gazelle (www.trailjournals.com/gazelle PCT Class of 07 and 08 ) sprinted in
from behind.  I can see why they call her Gazelle.  She started a long time
after us, was wearing her thru-hiker pack and probably hiked without breaks
for 10 miles to catch us.  Last time I saw her we were northbound out of
Red's Meadow last year.  We talked PCT a lot over the last 14 miles.

The group finished way ahead of schedule and we all may have ended up home
before dark, even those with a 90 minute drive.

Got to mention this one.  Len Glassner doesn't have a trail name yet.  He
has done the 24 miles of the Dreaded San Felipe Hills TWICE now this month.
San Felipe hills twice?

How about "Two Timer" for a trail name?
