I have a wealth of stories where I powered on and put on rain gear after I got wet, and then hiked down the ridge and got cold. Give me light snow over light rain any day... My guess is every person on this list has learned from at least one choice that turned out to the wrong one when it comes to dealing with hiking in the rain...

Switchback replies: You could not be more right. I use a simple super light DriDuck jacket and a super light rain wrap for my legs. Very nice. It would be great if I used them better on the trail when the weather turns bad.
