A few more thoughts on this topic:

I moved to the San Francisco area in 1969 and I soon became aware of
"obnoxious Easterners". People who had move to SF to enjoy its life
style -- then complained because it wasn't like New York City or similar.

How people treat you usually depends on how you treat them. I've
traveled in many states and never had a bad experience from being from
California with California plates on my car, etc. I remember one amusing
incident. I was having brake trouble circa 1971 and I went to a
combination Dodge car dealer and farm equipment store somewhere in
Colorado. The mechanic saw my license plates and said I probably thought
he should move to California. Nope I replied, California already is too
crowded.

The world is already over populated and the population problem is
getting worse. Back in the early 70's, there were serious international
efforts to slow and stop population growth worldwide. Then caame various
backlashes followed by "Reganism". Anyone who talked about limiting
population growth or immigration was called racist and worse; and the
conservatives were against all efforts to curtail population growth.
Regan and crew slashed funds for population control.

California's population growth is caused by people moving into the state
and recently by higher birth rate among some immigrant groups.
California absorbed a lot of the population growth from the rest of the
country.

We Americans are a restless group -- how many people born in a local
live their life in that locale?
