[pct-l] TP - burying vs Packing out - also an organic subutitute

Last August when I hiked the PCT from Echo Lake north towards Donner
Pass, the El Dorado NF (?) gave me a black plastic zipper-closing bag
and urged me to carry out my TP. I did. Just a minor inconvenience. If
you come prepared what is the fuss all about? I also had a couple of
Mountain House dinners; the empty foil packs make good bags for carrying
out messy trash and are probably odor-proof too. And no extra cost or
weight for separate bags if you use MH.

While I have never packed out my TP, if you do you could use an OPSAK, which lets out no odors. I discovered a good organic substitute for toilet paper that is fairly abundant wherever there are FIR trees. There are two species: the pale green lichen and also the nearly black lichen that you will see hanging from the trees and on the ground beneath fir trees
