Just throwing this out there...
I tend towards Joshua Tree for New Years. It's a great place to hike around and hang out in the winter.
If anyone is headed that way, or feel inclined to do so I'm sending out feelers for a meet and greet.
It's a great place to get in some desert hiking, test some gear options, try out a new stove, carry a lot of water, and all that fun hiking stuff.
I suppose you'd want to be living somewhat close as I'm down on LA harbor, but it is where it is and it's a three to four hour drive for me.
Things I was thinking about were offering any assistance I can give in tarp rigging and knot tying, photography, cold weather camping, and whatever fifteen years of desert and mountain rambles are worth. Sorry, no ice slopes to practice with an ice axe, but San Gorgonio Wilderness and Wrightwood are close enough, and so is the San Jacinto range just across the way.
So like I said, just seeing if anyone is interested in a Desert New Years. Send me email or respond here if this sounds like an idea...
