I think the big risk with cows is actually E. coli bacteria.  E. coli can
cause symptoms similar to Giardia and I suspect that many people who get
"gastrointestinal distress" are actually struggling with E. coli, not
Giardia.  E. coli is also really easy to transmit between unhygienic people.
