Good afternoon, Fuzz,

As a general rule, August is the Oregon month for PCT hikers. You could
start earlier but we typically have a fair amount of snowpack at higher
elevations until mid-June or early July. It’ll clear more quickly than that
in the south. If you read Journals don’t be guided by snow reports from the
’08 mob. ’08 was a really heavy snow year for Oregon . If you want an idea
of what it was like take a look at the ten photos beginning at:

Sara Dyehouse recently posted this link at PCT-L:
http://www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/cgibin/westsnow.pl It’s quite good at
providing a relative frame of reference for the snow years. Look at Oregon
in Feb ‘8 vs. Feb ’09. ’08 had 150%-180% of average, while this year – so
far – it’s right on average.

Also, consider hiking Oregon as late as you reasonably can to avoid the
early season mosquitoes.

Phones? I have no idea. I never willing touch the things.
