This question comes up a lot and hitting the archives might be helpful.

As a 61 year old woman, we probably would have the same concerns. To make a long story short - not to worry. Though I do not have the hiking experience as many on the list, I've had enough to feel comfortable in responding to you.

I leave my wedding ring home for fear of damage and wear a cheaper ring on my left hand to make it clear there may be a man around the next bend in the trail.

The closer to a trail head, your concerns might heighten, i.e., less hikers more of the general public.

If you do not feel comfortable with the new comers to your general camp site; pick up and move on.

Most importantly, there is no reason I can think of that would indicate you cannot hike as much of the trail as possible. It is filled with helpful, friendly, funny and all around great people.

Think I'd better stop; I did not make a long story short (hard for me to do!).
