Biz,
Placerville's not all that close to the PCT if day hiking is what you
are wanting to do. You might have better luck looking for your local
Sierra Club and hiking with them. You do not have to be a member to
join a Sierra Club hike.
You might consider ordering the guide book from the pcta.org web site
for the part of the Pacific Crest Trail closest to you. I think that
would be the Northern California book. You could use the book to
learn more about the trail and find sections of it you would like to
do. There is also a book called Day Hikes on the Pacific Crest Trail
that you might also like.
Once in a while someone posts that they are doing a section of the
trail and looking for partners. So keep an eye open or else plan to
hike a section yourself and seek partners to come with you.
Also, since you are sort of near Lake Tahoe, you might find planned
hikes in that area, including on the PCT. There are lots of trails in
the Lake Tahoe area.
Good luck,
Diane
