Lisa, 
Start the online journal with a trail name and don't post any pictures, yet. 
Make it anonymous. You can add more information and pictures after you have done 
your due diligence at work. You'll have to edit your writing a bit but you 
should be able to start now and get those words out without putting your income 
in jeopardy. I had an anonymous blog for 2 years that had a decent readership 
but it was important to me to not have that bleed into the job I had at the 
time. It can definitely be done.

I have found it to be VERY difficult to avoid talking about my trip until I 
inform my employers, especially as the time draws closer. I have told a few 
close associates at my work and feel guilty for not sharing with a few others 
whom I also feel close with (working in a small office for 12 years, I feel like 

they are all friends/family) but I need to pay the mortgage so can't let my 
plans leak out too early. I have had to edit my facebook posts (including a few 
of my own when my excitment gets the best of me) for many months now.

My current struggle is that I really want to start an online journal and while I 

doubt my employers would find me on postholer I still do not want to be so bold 
as to start this prior to giving notice at my work. I plan on giving notice 
around 2/1/11 so I am holding on with the mantra of, "just 5 more weeks, just 5 
more weeks..."

I've discussed this with some folks off list, but I'm curious how others feel. 
My employer doesn't know I'm leaving yet. Is anyone else hiking in 2011 having 
trouble not talking about the hike? It's torture for me to not mention it. 
Especially on Facebook! At least I'm pretty sure none of my coworkers read this 
list. ;)

Anyone else finding it harder to deal with some of the trappings of modern life 
as the hike grows nearer? I work in IT. I find myself repeating my new mantra 
everytime I have to deal with a frustrating user. "3 months... 3 months... 3 
months..." :)
