Yep.  I've made a few out of the large Foster and Heiniken beer cans.  They are
more fragile then a real pot/mug though and have to be packed with care or
they will deform/crush quickly.  The advantage though is you can replace them
easily on the trail by drinking more beer (asuming you have a side cut can opener
in your bounce box) though not every trail town carries the large beer cans.
Beer can pots work great for boiling water but not for cooking in so using a
method like the freezer bag cooking one is recommended.
