My intent isn't to 'criticize' unless you think talking about the situations and trying to learn from them is 'criticism'.

I'm not sure of the hot/cold dichotomy that you suggest.  There have been many discussions of dehydration, carrying enough water, not depending on caches, avoiding hiking during the heat of the day and so on on this list.
