[pct-l] Shutdown

Actually, only the "essential" employees are still there, law enforcement, fire fighters and the like.  "Non-essential" employees like the interpretive rangers, office workers, etc. would be furloughed.  I sort of understand the difference between "essential" and "non-essential" but don't understand how the "essential" folks are paid, since they are also paid from appropriated funds which haven't been (appropriated).  A mystery!

  AsaBat tends to make my point.  The park is closed but the employees are

  Arizona news says Grand Canyon NP will shut down.  Rangers would go by foot,
  horse,  helicopter,  and raft to tell all in the backcountry to leave within
  48 hours.  

  So yeah I guess they would shut down the trails. What you do is your call
  but California did this a couple years ago and levied some nice fines.
