Seems like a reasonable plan.

Apparently you live in the SF Bay area so suggest you explore some of the 
other hiking opportunities around.

On some of your hikes, especially as you get closer to your big hike start, 
I suggest you each carry your pack with weight equivalent to what you 
anticipate you'll be carrying on your trip. I will train with my pack 
loaded with several gallons of water to simulate a full pack load and do 
some long upgrades. Great for conditioning all of your body.
