[pct-l] gaiters

An awful lot of the desert landscape is granulated decomposed granite.
I can't walk on the stuff without getting it in my shoes. Also, you'll
be walking through springtime in April, May and June. It seems like
every three inch plant is trying to spread their brand of seed pod by
catching a ride on hiking socks.

On the one hand, gaiters will keep that stuff out. On the other hand,
you'll lose a good excuse to stop and take your shoes off.

I suspect you find them a lot like I did hiking poles. I thought they
looked silly...I knew I'd never use them....I tried them for giggles (in
the name of scientific experimentation)...I wouldn't be without them.
