After reading that, I feel obligated to tell everyone about my experience at
the Northern Kennedy Meadows. For $23 I got a bed, shower, and laundry
washed (detergent included) . For an extra $5 I got connected to their
Wifi. The bed is located directly above the store/restaurant and there are
currently 4 other empty beds in the same room. Very clean dormitory. It
sort of reminds me of that place on the AT in the Berkshires with the
tower...etc.

The 10 mile hitch was tough and I think I walked 3 miles before a guy in a
US Marine Corps truck picked me up. I guess he helps manage the 66000 acres
for the Marines...his long hair indicated it was probably from the civilian
side of things.

When I first arrived, I wasn't sure about the place because I was told to
camp 0.5 miles down their road at some trailhead. However, after I learned
more about what they had to offer...I jumped at the "bed upstairs" option.

The food is great...and there is a saloon on site for ALL the cowboys and
cowgirls. The resort really is a little slice of TX...but hikers are left
to their little cozy dorm upstairs.
