You can get a 12-bar sample pack. I've done that several times.

  Hi all,

Just wanted to add my 2 cents. I'm a huge proponent of mealpack bars, they
are my go to lunch for the entire trail. That said if you contact their
customer service and mention your a thru-hiker they give you huge discounts,
I think that mine were around .80 each when I purchased 120 of them, and
they are great people. If you have dietary restrictions some are dairy free
  as well.

  Happy trails,

  Flying Tortoise

When I added the mealpack bars, or power bars, or any of the "someone
else does the work" foods, the cost easily doubled. That said, I'm a
convert to the 4oz bars you can buy for $1.30 or so with shipping -
http://mealpack.com/. You get 440 calories for not much more than a
buck!!! You have to buy a minimum of 50 bars, but that's not a big deal.
