[pct-l] Foot enlargement Question

I have heard numerous accounts of feet growing several sizes while on a thru hike.  I hiked about half the PCT many years ago with old fashioned heavy leather boots, and never experienced this.  Is this something that happens after a few weeks, 1500 miles, only to hikers under age 30?  I would love to buy several pairs of shoes in advance, but ya'll are scarin' me.
