Just a thought.

Tom posted on Saturday that 60 thru's had already passed through Kennedy Meadows. At the same time, Joe posted that they had 82 that night at the Casa.

Crazy numbers to me. Seems the PCT is well on its way to AT style levels of use, at least in so far as the usual thru hiking window is concerned, not to mention section hikers. I'm not sure we can rely on thru permits to accurately gauge overall trail use although it is the best measurement available.

If this level of use continues to increase I assume that we'll see commercial operators start to supplant tradition trail angels in the first 700 miles. just by the necessity of the numbers involved. How the situation on the trail adapts and adjusts will be interesting, not least the impact on water sources and sanitation in general.

We already saw some push back from the neighbors at Kennedy Meadows last year. On the positive, if the store can accurately predict and meet the resupply (beer) requirements it will continue in business, if only seasonally.
