IIRC, on at least one occasion here a thru has asked if it was OK to drop his trash at a water cache. So we can assume, (yes, I know what happens when we ASSume) that other hikers have come up with the same idea.

So the question might be, why are water caches so necessary? Is the trail impossible to hike without them?
